An issue I haven't written about before ›
Dear fellow future moeslem accountants who are considering to work in a conventional bank, please re-consider.
“Mohammad (Peace be upon him) has cursed anyone who deals with riba, the one who takes it, the one who pays it and the one who records it, as their sins are considered equal under the Quran.”
Riba is a very important issue, especially for Muslims (including myself), weshould think about this. Riba is forbidden in Islamic economic and considered as a major sin. To be perfectly honest, I didn’t know very much about this before and I didn’t thought it was that haram with interest. But after getting to know a little about it from others and after I have read a bit about it myself,I understand how haram it is.
It’s sad that many Muslim don’t even think about this, many Muslim compete to see who has the bigger house, the nicest car and the list goes on. But we Muslims were never supposed to live this way. First of all let’s look what states in the Quran about this:
O you who have believed, do not consume usury, doubled and multiplied, but fear Allah that you may be successful. (3:130)
Allah has permitted trade and has forbidden interest (2:275)
Let’s take an example: you go out and rant money from the bank, you buy a big house, then after that what? How does it feel to have done something Allah ta’ala has not allowed? Why not just live in a simple house and pay in a way Allah ta’ala is pleased with. And if you really want your own house, then why not save your money and buy the house when you can afford it with your own money. SubhanAllah I know some that don’t want to buy a house because they don’t want riba on them. Oh how I wish many more thought like this. This with house was just an example, it can apply to other things too, car etc..The Qur’an mentions that the person who deals with riba will stand (on judgement day) as one who is beaten by Satan into insanity. Here, Qur’an makes it clear that “trade” and “riba” are not the same and that God forbade “riba” and allowed “trade”. It further states that whoever accepts the guidance of God must immediately stop dealing in riba, and those who return to riba after God’s guidance has reached are dwellers in fire because God destroys “riba” and will reward those who give to charity.
The crimes of dealing in riba are so serious that God has declared war against those who deal in it. Mohammad (Peace be upon him) has cursed anyone who deals with riba, the one who takes it, the one who pays it and the one who records it, as their sins are considered equal under the Quran.
Riba is considered to be a huge sin, for Muslims. The Prophet declared the practice of riba is worse than adultery, worse than “to a man committing adultery with his own mother” [Source:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riba]
Ya Muslims, avoid buying unless you’ve got the money! Take a look on this dua: And of them (also) is he who says: ‘Our Lord! Give unto us in the world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good, and guard us from the doom of Fire’” (Quran 2:201).
This is a common Dua of Muslims, and it indicates that we don’t have to abstain from seeking the good in this world to attain good in the next.
May Allah forgive all those who have riba and ends with it as soon as possible inshAllah. May Allah The Almighty guide us and lead us to do acts that only please Him. Ameen Ya Rabb!
